Are Diesel Forklifts Being Phased Out?
Everything is going electric in our planet’s efforts to go green. Our cars, our central heating systems and our kitchen appliances.
So, we as experts in the MHE industry wanted to shed some light on whether diesel forklifts will soon meet the same fate. Recently, we have discussed the electrification of MHE and the perks of the electric forklift. But, today we will be exploring why diesel forklifts are in fact on the chopping block.
As always, we at Trucks Direct have a range of articles and free guides on all things warehouse and MHE.
How Have the Rules Changed?
The change in rules came in April of 2022, when in which the government called for diesel owners to pay more, seeing a general tax hike on diesel vehicles in general. It suddenly became evident that we are in fact looking to phase out diesel vehicles, and forklifts.
The rules have come about as part of the government’s effort to tackle the climate crisis. If diesel forklifts are less commonly used, it will mean fewer emissions and thus less harm to the planet.
How Could it Impact my Business?
The change in rules can impact forklift fleets everywhere. If they do not conform to the new rules and regulations regarding the tax increase, companies can expect a penalty from HMRC.
In some cases, people can actually have their vehicles seized as a result of the new regulations. If anything, the new rules tell us a lot about how serious the current climate crisis really is.
What is the Alternative?
The alternative to diesel MHE lies in electric vehicles. Now, you will pretty much find electric alternatives to every piece of MHE
For example, we at Trucks Direct have:
- New and used electric forklifts
- Electric pallet trucks
- Electric pedestrian stackers
So that regardless of what diesel models you’ve had to get rid of, there’s an electric alternative for you.
Phasing Out Diesel – Can it Be a Good Thing?
Whilst a lot of business owners and forklift operators may see the phasing out of diesel models as a big inconvenience, it also has a lot of benefits to it.
The introduction of more electric models appears to be having quite the effect on our planet. Electric forklifts do not emit carbon and other harmful greenhouse gases, thereby being highly environmentally friendly.
The benefits of electric MHE include:
- Lower TCO and reduced fuel costs
- Easier maintenance
- Keeps internal air cleaner
- Reduced Co2 emissions
